The vinyl window is becoming one of the favorites among replacements. Their appearance is excellant, they save energy &install easily & pricing is relatively modest compared to other frames. The frame will never lose its color& never needs painting. Many can be cleaned both sides from inside. Some leading vunyl manufacurers include Simonton, Hurd & Crystal windows.

Wood Replacement windows

Look for features such as double or triple glazing, glass with reflective coatings & energy star logos. Consumer magazines reccomend either Pella Proline or Andersen 200 tilt series. These windows are a bit pricier but are excellant values.

Fiberglass Replacement Windows

Fiberglass windows were the latest to come onto the window market. They are excellant windows & probably the most expensive but the prices are rapidly becoming more & more competitive.  The big advantage of fiberglass is their strength & they have the insulating qualities of wood windows. So you now have a fiberglass/wood clad window that will not absorb moisture, will not warp & is totally energy saving tight. And last but not least the window frame is paintable if you wish to change the color in the future. Top manufacturers are Andersen, Marvin & Harvey.

Aluminum replacement windows

Aluminum windows are the least expensive & compared to the others have the least going for them. They are rarely used in homes but find their place in commercial large opening applications.
