I was always surprised at how few homeowners
tackled the job
of kitchen remodeling. It seems to scare everybody to death to
fool with electric & plumbing & a little carpentry.
I am talking about a kitchen remodel where the cabinets,
electric & the plumbing are going to remain in the same location
as they are now. If you want to do it yourself all you need is a
level, hammer, screwdriver & a pair of pliers to do the job.
If you are looking for a simple remodel do this:
Go to one of the big box stores. Pick out your cabinets,
counter top & sink & faucet. Give them your measurements.
(Not your measurements, the kitchen measurements)They will
lay out your job on paper, make up your material list & deliver
everything to the house.
If you have the talent then you should be able to do the
cabinets, counter top & sink in two-three days, & finish in three
or four days.
If you are without talent then hire a carpenter to rip out & install
the cabinets. If he is any good he will be able to do the simple
plumbing & electric. Hire your own flooring contractor. Do your
own paint & wallpaper.
You can't do it any less expensive than the way I describe &
your kitchen will look terrific.

If you are looking for a whole new do then definitely use a
contractor who does kitchens (or kitchens & baths) only. They
are very good at what they do.
